Golf Breaks in Portpatrick
Plan your Golf Holiday to Portpatrick with The Harbour House Hotel
We are less than a month away from the 145th Open Championship at Royal Troon, which means there has never been a better time to visit Southwest Scotland for a spot of golfing! Portpatrick is situated just 45 minutes away by car, and is the perfect place to begin or finish your Open experience with a golf break at The Harbour House. Starting from just £90* for 27 Holes plus more! The Southwest and specifically Dumfries & Galloway offers some of the most challenging golf in the country, but with the most spectacular reviews. If you can brave the cliff-side fairways, you'll be rewarded with a stunning vista across the Irish Sea. We've teamed up with Portpatrick Golf Club to offer a fantastic Golf Package for our guests at The Harbour House Hotel. With 27 holes across two courses, there's plenty to keep you occupied during your stay with us. The Dunskey is a beautifully maintained 18-Hole Par 70 set amongst the grounds of the Dunskey Estate, whilst Dinvin is a 9-Hole Par 3 course for golfers looking to practice their short game. Not only that but we'll provide you with a discount code for Dumfries & County Golf Club, so you can continue on your exploration of Scotland's greatest golf. The Open Championship being held at Royal Troon this year has put the Southwest of Scotland back on the map - along with Dumfries & Galloway being named 2016's "stay-cation" destination of the year - there truly has not been a better time to come and pay us a visit.

Upcoming Music at The Harbour House Hotel
Dumfries & Galloway is an amazing hub for music. From the huge Eden Festival in June near Dumfries, to the ever growing Portpatrick Folk Festival, the music never stops in South West Scotland. Here at The Harbour House Hotel we're always on the lookout for local artists to share their talent with our guests and locals. And this summer is no different, with a fantastic line up of bands and solo musicians to entertain you into the small hours. At the end of May we welcome back our old friend and local favourite Jim Hamilton. Come down on Saturday 28th May to join in the fun. Then in June we have Spindrift, no strangers to Portpatrick, it will be their first appearance at The Harbour House and we're looking forward to showing them how good a time our guests can have! They'll be playing on Saturday 4th and 25th June. Finally Acoustica return after a fantastic reception when they played with us in April. We're really looking forward to having the duo play again and we're sure you are too. Put 6th August in the diary so you don't miss out! If this calendar of artists wasn't enough the Portpatrick Folk Festival will return on the first weekend of September and we're looking forward to it being bigger and better than ever before! The festival will run Friday 2nd - Sunday 4th September. Keep an eye out for further information in the upcoming months. You can never have too much music so if you are interested in performing at The Harbour House Hotel get in touch via social media, or email us at information@theharbourhousehotel.co.uk with some information, a website and samples if you have them. We look forward to seeing your beautiful faces for an evening of entertainment soon.

Why you should choose Portpatrick for your next Photography holiday

Named Country File Magazine's Holiday Destination of the Year, Dumfries & Galloway is the secret gem of Scotland.

"an overlooked corner whose time has come" - Dixe Wills

Tucked away in the south west corner is the picturesque village of Portpatrick. And we think that if you're planning a trip to the region this year, then we should definitely be on your radar. Especially if capturing that perfect photo is your goal!

We ran a #PortpatrickPics competition for visitors and locals to showcase what the village has to offer.

Congratulations to our winners

There's such variation of scenery around Portpatrick. From dramatic and lonely vistas across the Irish sea from the rugged cliff tops, the unique and charming harbour with some of the best sunsets in the country, to the tranquillity of the Southern Upland way.

But it isn't just scenic photography that Portpatrick is suited for. Benefiting from a Gulf Stream climate, during the summer months there are plenty of opportunities to capture more action shots. Water sports such as kayaking or fishing, golf with the dramatic backdrop of Ireland on the horizon, or biking along Scotland's coast to coast route.

As well as wildlife photography. Again the Gulf Stream means a cornucopia of indigenous wildlife that you just won't find elsewhere in Scotland. Along with protected bird species gracing the sky.

These reasons and more are why Portpatrick should be your next travel photography destination.

Live Music at The Harbour House Hotel this St Patrick's Day

With St Patrick's Day falling on a Thursday this year we're waiting until the weekend for our celebrations.

On Saturday 19th we'll be welcoming back Nathon Jones and family to The Harbour House. Nathon has delighted us many times before, most recently during 2015's Folk Festival, and it's always a pleasure to have him.

With only 20 miles betwixt us and the Emerald Isle, there is a long history of friendship between the two coasts with many families spread across the water. St Patrick's Day provides an opportunity for friends and family to gather and celebrate their history and culture.

Saturday 19th promises to be an action packed day with Ireland hosting Scotland in the Rugby 6 Nations earlier in the evening at 5pm. We'll be showing the game in our bar areas and we hope you'll stick around to soak up the atmosphere later on in the evening.

For a small taste of what's in store for you watch Nathon and wife Rhona perform The Best of Times at Portpatrick's 2014 Folk Festival below.

It's going to be an action packed, fun filled day in The Harbour House bar and you don't want to miss out! If you'd like to reserve a spot for you and your family and friends then call us on 01776 810456.
