Dumfries & Galloway is an amazing hub for music. From the huge Eden Festival in June near Dumfries, to the ever growing Portpatrick Folk Festival, the music never stops in South West Scotland. Here at The Harbour House Hotel we're always on the lookout for local artists to share their talent with our guests and locals. And this summer is no different, with a fantastic line up of bands and solo musicians to entertain you into the small hours. At the end of May we welcome back our old friend and local favourite Jim Hamilton. Come down on Saturday 28th May to join in the fun. Then in June we have Spindrift, no strangers to Portpatrick, it will be their first appearance at The Harbour House and we're looking forward to showing them how good a time our guests can have! They'll be playing on Saturday 4th and 25th June. Finally Acoustica return after a fantastic reception when they played with us in April. We're really looking forward to having the duo play again and we're sure you are too. Put 6th August in the diary so you don't miss out! If this calendar of artists wasn't enough the Portpatrick Folk Festival will return on the first weekend of September and we're looking forward to it being bigger and better than ever before! The festival will run Friday 2nd - Sunday 4th September. Keep an eye out for further information in the upcoming months. You can never have too much music so if you are interested in performing at The Harbour House Hotel get in touch via social media, or email us at with some information, a website and samples if you have them. We look forward to seeing your beautiful faces for an evening of entertainment soon.

Live Music at The Harbour House Hotel this St Patrick's Day

With St Patrick's Day falling on a Thursday this year we're waiting until the weekend for our celebrations.

On Saturday 19th we'll be welcoming back Nathon Jones and family to The Harbour House. Nathon has delighted us many times before, most recently during 2015's Folk Festival, and it's always a pleasure to have him.

With only 20 miles betwixt us and the Emerald Isle, there is a long history of friendship between the two coasts with many families spread across the water. St Patrick's Day provides an opportunity for friends and family to gather and celebrate their history and culture.

Saturday 19th promises to be an action packed day with Ireland hosting Scotland in the Rugby 6 Nations earlier in the evening at 5pm. We'll be showing the game in our bar areas and we hope you'll stick around to soak up the atmosphere later on in the evening.

For a small taste of what's in store for you watch Nathon and wife Rhona perform The Best of Times at Portpatrick's 2014 Folk Festival below.

It's going to be an action packed, fun filled day in The Harbour House bar and you don't want to miss out! If you'd like to reserve a spot for you and your family and friends then call us on 01776 810456.

Portpatrick Folk Festival 2015

Portpatrick Folk Festival 2015Folk Festival August 2015 Portpatrick

Portpatrick was abuzz with music and laughter once again as one of many annual events took place the first weekend in September.

The 2015 Folk Festival unfortunately did not include a concert in the village hall on the final day, but locals and visitors alike were delighted by the talent on show around the whole village as the hotels and bars collaborated for the first time to make the festival a success. The Harbour House Hotel was at the centre of the festival, playing host to a number of musicians across the weekend.

Friday evening saw the return of festival favourites Nathon and Rhona Jones, who were warmly welcomed and performed a fantastic set that lasted into the wee hours. And on Saturday we hosted friends from across the Irish Sea who led a session that had everyone joining in.

This year’s festival was a resounding success, and with the audience growing year on year, 2016 promises to be even bigger and better. If you missed the folk festival this year, don’t fret, as even as we approach the close of a bustling 2015, events are already being planned for next year and here’s what you have to look forward to.

Spring 2016

The year kicks off with Portpatrick’s songwriter festival Portfest. Now in its’ fourth year, organiser JJ Gilmore invites guests from all over to delight young and old alike. 2016’s festival will run the weekend of February 26th.

Just the month after Portpatrick will celebrate Irish culture, food and drink the weekend after St Patricks Day between March 18th & 20th. With such close ties to Northern Ireland, expect a high calibre of musicians for your entertainment.

Summer 2016

June hosts the “Whisky No More” Scooter Rally the weekend of the 17th. And July 19th is the return of the Vintage Truck Rally.

The first week of August is the highly regarded Lifeboat Week. 2015 raised somewhere in the region of £30,000, a stellar effort by all involved, with the bonus of everyone having had a great time while doing it. 2016 promises the same if not better, with the weather hopefully clearing for two years’ worth of fireworks!

Autumn 2016

And if you’ve survived all that, then we come full circle with the annual Folk Festival again taking place the first weekend of September.

In addition there are plans to organise Portpatrick’s first Jazz & Blues festival, which have seen growing popularity across the country. How many more reasons do you need to come and visit?
